Jack has always been the most popular of the two brothers, Bobby comes across as being eternally miserable, great player though in his pomp

Mid '60s. Midweek league cup game against Leeds under the lights at Upton Park. We're stuffing them. Jack Charlton splits his shorts and during a break in play their kit man runs on with a new pair for him. From the North Bank the chant goes up "Charlton, Charlton show us yer arse" Jack looks over to see if the ref is watching, sees that he isn't and then moons the North Bank. Massive cheer.

Great bloke.

Listened to Jack Charltons desert island discs. He talked about how Bobby stopped going to see their mother. That caused a rift between them.

Was watching the hearse driving through the streets of Ashington & wondered whether the crowds would be as big for Bobby.

Too young to remember him winning the world cup in 66 but will always remember him from the USA 94 world cup and him having a right pop at the officials when trying to get Aldridge on the pitch.

Wonder if Johnny Byrne was in his book, you know, after he tore Jack a brand new arsehole

Recall as a young kid hearing he had a little black book of players he wanted to get even with was great.

Curmudgeon or not, Jackie Charlton was a member of THE XI and is therefore, in my eyes, a footballing GOD.

RIP, our kid.

Yes, have always said Gabby Logan could do a much better job probably at a tenth of the salary.
Funny how in a situation where a woman IS the best person for the job the bbc is resistant.

Re: R. I. P Jack Charlton
Sven, indeed, now the BBC are cancelling free TV licenses for the over 70s but are giving that utter plank Lineker an exorbitant salary

RIP to the big fella. Hard to believe it doesn't seem that long ago that Bobby was the only one gone, but now there are what 5 of the original 11 left and Nobby Stiles isn't well at all.?

Re: R. I. P Jack Charlton
Good work by multi million pound presenter G Lineker on MOTD talking about him being manager of Boro, Sheffield UNITED & Newcastle.

Had to apologise later presumably after several irate calls from the Wednesday side of Sheffield

Indeed, 7-0 wasn't it?
